Here’s how to know if you take things personally:
- You don’t take action on a sales call, a product launch, avoid networking because you’re scared that people don’t want what you have and they’ll reject you
- You hide under the radar because you fear judgment and criticism
- You want everyone to like you, and getting disapproval crushes your spirit
When you take things personally, it starts off a chain of negative thinking, with you stacking up more and more evidence to support thinking like:
I’m not good enough
I’m a fraud
It’s dangerous to be visible
And this has a huge impact on your bottom line.
But the good news is, it doesn’t have to be like this… because you do have a choice about whether you take things personally or not.
Recently, I was talking to a friend and told him I wanted to create a 12-month coaching programme for multi 7-figure business owners. He said, “Why don’t you send a short video to leading online experts, offering to coach them to remove their internal blocks so they create a business that makes them feel more fulfilled?”
I got really excited about this, and thought it would be fun.
Now the old me would have run a mile at the thought of reaching out to that level of client. My old thinking would have been:
“You have got to be kidding. Why in a million years would I invite all that rejection? Why would any of these people listen to anything I’ve got to say?”
But who I am now, thought:
“What a great idea, I’ve got nothing to lose,” and I’ve already implemented this strategy.
Because now, I don’t mind “rejection”. It doesn’t affect me, because I choose to not take it personally when people say “No” to me. I know they’re not saying “No” to me as a person, they’re just saying “No” to my request. And that feels completely OK.
If you want to stop taking things personally and stop fearing rejection, I can show you how. Let’s talk.
Warmly,
